Explain the Levels of teaching

1] Memory level of Teaching:

      It is also as known as herbat’s teaching model. (unisensory mstruction and Bisensory mstruction). It is the first and thoughtless level of teaching. The student only cram the fact, information, formulae and laws that are taught to them. According to Bigge, morris (1967), the teaching at the memory level is nothing but learning subject matter by rote. Memory is a mental ability which exists in all living beings. Through this ability, one gains knowledge and retains that acquired knowledge in memory. The teaching at the memory level is considered to be the lowest level or the least thoughtful level. At this level the thinking ability has hardly much role to play. At this level the role of teacher is prominent and that of student is ‘mferior’ (secondary). The study material is organized and pre-planned. The teacher presents the study material in a sequential order.

 

*Merits of memory level of Teaching:-

1. Teaching at this level is very useful for children at lower classes.

2. The role of teacher at memory level teaching is important. He is free to make the chise of the subject matter plan it an present it.

3. The knowledge acquired at this level forms a basis for the future of the intelligence level and thinking level.

4. The subject matter of certain subjects is difficult to understand in these situation, cramming works.

 

*Demerits of memory level of teaching:-  

1. It is Authoritarian/ or auto critic teaching, under it, Teacher is active and student is passive.

2. Cramming is over – insisted in teaching focus on rote-learning).

3. The pupil are kept in strict discipline.

4. Thinking and creative ability is not developed in it.

 

Levels of teaching

2] Understanding level of teaching:-

    It is also known as morison’s Teaching model. (multisensory Instruction)

   It is the second, useful and thought full level of teaching. It means to explain the pupils about the relationship between principles and facts and to let them point of view of mental capabilities the understanding level occupies a higher place in teaching then the memory level. The teaching at the understanding level lays emphasis on the students learning by understanding new facts, factual information, principles, theories, laws and formulae without resorting to cramming and enables them to use their knowledge in real situation of life. This enables the student to have a complete command our the subject matter. At this level, role of the teacher is more active. He has to work hard at this level under it, student use comprehension and Application technique.

 

*Merits of understanding level of teaching:-

1. The student do not learn by cramming but learn by understanding the facts and factual information and their uses purpose.

2. In this process of teaching the subject matter is presented before the students in an orgonised and sequential from and the new knowledge acquired is related to the earlier knowledge gained.

3. The knowledge acquired to the understanding level of teaching forms a basis for reflective level of teaching.

4. It is thought full and useful level of teaching.

 

*Demrits of understanding level of teaching:-

1. The teaching at this level is subject-centered not learner centered.

2. In this level of teaching, only mastery is emphasired.

3. Ther is no interaction blw the teacher and student at this level.

4. Not focus on student’s creative skill and thinking skill.

 

3] Reflective level of teaching:-

   It is also known as hwnt’s  teaching model. (multisensory instruction and creative instruction.)

   It is third, useful and most-thoughtful level of teaching. Teaching at the reflective level enables the students to solve the real problems of life. Teacher does not force knowledge on the student but develops in them talent and capabilities. At this level the subject matter is not organized or pre-panned but is situation-centered. At this level the student is made to face a real problematic situation. The student by understanding the situation and using his critical abilities Bucceeds in solving the problem. Under it student starts Analysising synthesizing and Evaluating the things. The student’s original thinking and creative abilities develops at this level.


*Merits of Reflective level of teaching.

1. under it, the thinking and creative abilities of student develop.

2. under it, the students are free to show their talents and capabilities. (problem-solving abilities also develops)

3. The teaching at this level is not teacher-centered or subject-centered it is learned centered.

4. There is an interaction and open discussion behweer student and teacher regarding real-life problem.

 

*Demerits of Reflective level of teaching.

1. This level of teaching is not suitable for small children or for lower class.

2. At this level study material is not pre-planned.

3. Lack of systematic and organized study courses.

4. Non-formal type of environment is created.(laissez fair Teaching.)
